What the heck is that???

I usually loathe summertime. Summertime to me means seemingly endless days of skin cracking dryness, heat stroke inducing temperatures, and constant blinding sunshine. Vomit. However, I didn't realize that summer could be really awesome once I moved away from the desert! But then again, I'm kind of a weirdo when it comes to weather. I'm one of the few (that I know of) who actually likes rain, and cold dark days.

These past few weeks have been a total dream. I've been completely spoiled with Italian summer. Since this is my first summer here I'm not sure if this is normal for the region but during the day it's a perfect 75 degrees, breezy and sunny. The birds are out chirping and everything screams PICNIC TIME!!! But then 5pm hits and the storm rolls in for the night. Temperatures drop  about 15-20 degrees, the wind picks up, thunder booms for a while, and rain carries on all night.

Which brings me to the reason behind this post. We sleep with our windows open at night because it's criminal not to with weather this awesome. The problem is that we have these mysterious creatures that live in this random patch of bamboo in the middle of our farmer neighbor's land. We have made a few assumptions about what the creature is but the super annoying noise it makes all night long has us quite confused.

We know think they're birds. Zero idea what type of bird, we've counted at least half a dozen flying around here. They croak like toads but at an unrealistic volume for toads. So they're not toads. I think. But they also quack sometimes, like ducks do but geographically it doesn't make sense for ducks to be in the dry farm fields.

We've been plotting to investigate but we don't want to upset our neighbor by snooping around his place. So until then those stupid bird toad things are safe.
